The North Atlantic coast is a busy shipping area with a lighthouse history that dates back two centuries to 1716 when Boston Light, the first American lighthouse, was first built.
The geography of the area demands navigation assistance, varying from marshy shores in the Delaware/North Carolina region to New England's rocky and treacherous, yet beautiful, coasts. In the south, almost out of the North Atlantic area, is Cheasapeake Bay, with its shallow waters and dangerously shifting shoals.
